Case study:
Bluntisham Habitat Bank

Location: Cambridgeshire, England

The Opportunity:

  • Spanning approximately 34 hectares of previously low-yield arable land, this site offered a major opportunity to restore biodiversity on the edge of the Fens.

  • The landowner sought to transition away from volatile agricultural markets toward a guaranteed, 30-year "green" income stream that preserved the family's land legacy.

Our Role:

  • We manage the full end-to-end lifecycle.

  • This includes performing the initial baseline ecological assessments, securing official registration on the National Biodiversity Gain Site Register, and managing the legal structuring.

  • We facilitate the BNG unit registration and sales to developers, while our team handles the physical ecological delivery and the long-term monitoring and reporting for the 30-year duration.

Outcomes:

  • Creation of a rich habitat mosaic including neutral grassland, scrub, and broadleaved woodland.

  • The site provides a high volume of BNG units for the Greater Cambridgeshire area, fostering landscape-scale connectivity and supporting ground-nesting birds and pollinators.
